Housing Programs

HBP operates two transitional homes: Perennial House and Muriel House. Residents are pregnant/parenting young mothers who are homeless, transient or couch surfers. Residents are matched with a case manager, who helps them make and carry out goals.

Perennial Transitional House

Perennial House, opened in 2013, provides long-term transitional housing and support for homeless young mothers. Currently undergoing renovations, HBP will be adding two stories to provide housing for (8) new resident families. Use the link below to register for updates.

Muriel Crisis Shelter

In a typical year, at least half of HBP’s case-managed young mothers need stable housing. The demand escalated further during the COVID-19 epidemic. HBP expanded its housing capacity by opening Muriel House in 2020

Muriel House is a transitional home in southeast D.C. It provides short-term crisis housing for homeless or transient pregnant and parenting youth as they work towards the goals of healthy birth outcomes and independent living or reunification with their families.
Muriel House has shared units to accommodate (8) young mothers and their children. Muriel House Program is a 90-day crisis shelter providing housing support and case management, connecting families to

● Mental health

● Social services (WIC, TANF)

● Educational support for mom and baby

● Life skills education.

● Career and job readiness
